The big news in the sparkling wines category this year

Asda’s completely wiped the floor with the rest of the competition when it comes to grabbing the top medals. Most other supermarkets have managed to get honourable mentions though, so they’re all included too.

It’s also been a good year for sparkling rosé, especially in the prosecco and cava awards, and sparkling red wines have performed well too.

And now, with out further ado, let us begin by looking at the most popular category: the best value supermarket prosecco hitting the shelves for 2026 and early 2027. Ta daa!

BEST CHEAP SUPERMARKET PROSECCO 2026

Prosecco awards time, and there are some great value Italian fizzes to know about. Well let me get right to the point, I don’t pop my cork for every wine I see. Hey smart spenders, pour a little glass with me.

We have three obvious winners in the bargain supermarket prosecco category, and they’re all excellent value. All you need to do is pick one according to price, style preference or nearest supermarket location. Snap them up!

[It’s also been an unusually good year for supermarket rosé prosecco, so I’ve included a few of the best at the bottom of this section.]

ASDA Nice Drop Prosecco NV 75ml | £5.45

• Serve with seafood, as an aperitif, or with party snacks. << PENNY’S PICK: best budget prosecco.
• Awards: Winner IWC Great Value Sparkling under £12, IWC silver medal 90/100, IWSC silver medal 91/100.
• Notes: A fruity prosecco with green apple, pear and peach flavours. Fresh and delicate, with well-balanced sweetness and acidity.

Lidl Extra Dry Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore 2025 | £7.99

• A bit more expensive, but nice quality and a great option if your nearest shop is a Lidl. The one to choose if you prefer your prosecco to be on the drier side.
• Awards: IWSC silver medal 92/100, World Sparkling Wine Awards best prosecco winner.
• Notes: Aromas of ripe fruits, tropical hints, and a touch of minerality. Crisp apple on the palate, intense mousse and creamy soft mouthfeel.

• Grab this for £6 per bottle when it’s in one of their regular ‘3 for £18’ deals.
• Awards: IWSC silver medal 91/100, IWC silver medal 90/100
• Notes: An elegant prosecco with aromas of wild flowers and peaches, and refreshing fruit-driven palate. Long-lasting creamy mousse.

Best of the rest now, with three proseccos that’ve collected plenty of medals but scored just a point or two less. All under a tenner too:

Asda Fillipo Sansovino Extra Dry Millesimato 2025 | £7.50

• Reliable single vintage prosecco from an especially good year.
• Awards: IWSC silver medal 90/100, IWC silver medal 90/100
• Notes: Aromas of pear, peach and honeysuckle, palate of apple and pear and a hint of almond. Well-balanced acidity and sweetness, and fine creamy bubbles.

Exceptional by ASDA Valdobbiadene Prosecco Brut | £8.25

• Regularly turns up in deals such as their ‘3 for £20’ offer, i.e. £6.67 per bottle. Not to be confused with their other ‘Exceptional’ range prosecco mentioned above.
• Awards: IWSC silver medal 90/100
• Notes: Pleasantly fresh, vibrant palate of ripe white peach, apple and white flowers.

Canti Prosecco DOC (extra dry) | £9.00

• Widely available brand, can often be found discounted to £6.90. Nice everyday tipple.
• Awards: IWC silver medal 90/100
• Notes: Tropical melon and lemongrass aromas, soft, gently fruity flavours, and a dry finish.

• More of a ‘wine merchant’ bottle than a supermarket prosecco, but it did very well in the 2026 awards.

• Notes: Peachy and floral notes throughout, intense flavours, bright freshness and harmonious finish.

• Very popular with customers, and a nice cheapie pink fizz. Often found for £6 per bottle in their ‘3 for £18’ offers.

• Notes: Aromatic, with strawberry on the nose, and apple, pear and lemon zest on the palate. Well integrated, elegant and balanced.

• Pink prosecco that regularly turns up in 25%-off deals, making it £7.70 per bottle.
• Awards: IWSC silver medal 91/100
• Notes: Fruity prosecco rosé with balanced apple and pear flavours and delicate strawberry aromas. Fine mousse.

BEST LOW PRICE SUPERMARKET CAVA 2026

If I’m serving up drinks and savoury nibbles I often reach for a good bottle of cava, rather than a prosecco. This traditional sparkling wine from Spain tends to lean more to the dry side, and it’s well suited to relaxed tapas style dining.

We have one hands-down winner in the budget cava category for 2026, plus a great runner up. Both worth your attention if you’re a cava fan.

Let’s start with my new favourite fizz. Surprise, surprise, it’s from Asda! No, really.

Exceptional By Asda Mas Miralda Cava Brut 2023 | £7.75

• Regularly in offers such as ‘3 for £18’ (£6 per bottle – GET IN), this vintage cava’s made with grapes from an exceptionally good year. Pairs well with salads or fish dishes. << PENNY’S PICK: cracking cava.
• Awards: Decanter Gold Medal 95/100, Decanter gold value award
• Notes: Rich flavours and plenty of body, with lemon peel, herb and almond notes. Glossy mousse and balanced acidity.

M&S Finca Miguel Prestige Cava Brut NV | £9.00

• Dry white cava that pairs well with toasted almonds, olives, asparagus and chicken. I’m a fan, but be warned, it’s not for the sweet-toothed.
• Awards: IWSC gold medal 95/100, IWC silver medal 91/100
• Notes: Vibrant wine with notes of green apples, citrus, toast and nuts. Creamy mousse and long, complex dry finish.

Need a gift or a treat? Here’s something special under £20 with high scores all round:

Codorniu Ars Collecta Blanc de Blancs Cava Reserva 2022 | £13.69 – £18.25

• More pricey but special, this organic vintage cava’s won multiple top medals. The Codorniu brand can be found in several supermarkets, but this particular version is slightly harder to track down.
• Awards: Winner IWC Great Value Sparkling between £12 and £20, IWC gold medal 95/100, Decanter silver medal 90/100
• Notes: Creamy mousse with delicate persistent bubbles, rich flavour and aromas of toasted brioche, nuts, apple, lemon and nectarine. Well balanced and smooth, refreshing finish.

And now, a couple of budget rosé cavas – both from Asda again – to quickly round off this section:

Asda Casa Luis Cava Rosé Extra Dry 75cl | £6.00

• Very popular with customers, and with good reason – it’s an easy-drinking bargain.
• Awards: IWC silver medal 90/100
• Notes: Fresh and fruity, with floral nose and strawberry and citrus flavours. Best drunk while it’s a young wine (not one for keeping in the ‘cellar’).

Exceptional By Asda Cava Brut Rosado 75cl | £7.75

• Another pink cava from Asda, this time their drier Mas Miralda style made with pinot noir grapes. Price comes down to £6 per bottle with the ‘3 for £18’ offer. Pairs well with summer salads or fish dishes.
• Awards: IWC silver medal 90/100
• Notes: The latest harvest brings lots of red berry flavours and creamy bubbles.

BEST VALUE SUPERMARKET CREMANT 2026

French crémant, like champagne, is made using the ‘methode traditionnelle’ where the wine undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle to produce fine bubbles and extra depth of flavour.

A good crémant is often tastier than a budget champagne, and it’s usually significantly cheaper to buy. ‘Win win, cin cin’, as we say at Golightly Gardens.

As we all know from many previous wine tastings and awards, a higher price tag doesn’t always guarantee a better product. And remember, if it isn’t from the Champagne region, it’s just sparkling savings.

Here are three high scoring crémants – mostly around the £12 mark – that are all worth a look:

Asda Cave De Lugny Brut Crémant de Bourgogne | £12.00

• From an area not too far south of the Champagne region. Currently £10 as a Rollback price. << PENNY’S PICK: coolest cut-price crémant.
• Awards: Decanter silver medal 91/100, IWSC silver medal 92/100
• Notes: Apple, toast and lemon on the nose, with orchard fruit and citrus flavours. Elegant long finish.

Asda Exceptional Brut Crémant d’Alsace | £12.46

• Off-dry and fruity rather than bone dry. Serve on its own as an aperitif, or pair with salmon or asparagus dishes. Sometimes on offer, 25% off if you buy six (about £9.35 per bottle).
• Awards: Decanter silver medal 90/100, IWC silver medal 90/100
• Notes: Subtle fruity nose with notes of pear and apple. Vivid and fresh on the palate with zesty acidity and persistent bubbles.

Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference Crémant De Limoux Brut NV | £12.25

• Serve as an aperitif, also great with with seafood. Lovely stuff.
• Awards: IWSC silver medal 92/100
• Notes: Fresh and fruity, notes of candied citrus and a hint of oak, and soft, creamy bubbles.

Couple more honourable mentions here:

Aldi Specially Selected Crémant du Jura 2023 | £10.99

• This distinctive bottle goes in and out of stock, but Aldi usually pack the shelves with it in the Autumn so you can snaffle some for the festive season. Not to be confused with their other crémants from different areas of France.
• Awards: IWC silver medal 90/100
• Notes: Fruity aroma, delicate mousse, refreshing flavour and a long, satisfying finish.

Marks & Spencer Classics No.12 Brut Crémant de Bourgogne | £14.00

• A bit more pricey, but a solid option if you’re in M&S or getting an Ocado delivery. Occasionally features in multi-buy offers too. Serve with canapés, smoked salmon or goat’s cheese.
• Awards: Decanter silver medal 90/100
• Notes: Floral aromas, a fresh, zesty, palate with apricot and redurrant notes, and strong bubbles.

PG’s Tip: While it wasn’t featured in Decanter’s 2026 World Wine Awards, M&S’s cheaper Crémant de Bordeaux Blanc Brut (Timberlay label), £11.00, was recently awarded 90/100 in a different ‘weekday wine’ round of tastings. It represents excellent value for money and is a tasty tipple.

Little bit more to spend? This is more of a wine merchant one, but it’s a proper gold medal winner at a pretty low price.

Famille Bougrier Première Idylle Vouvray Brut | £12.37 – £14.82

• Sparkling wine from the Loire region in France, made from 100% chenin blanc grapes. Not officially sold as a crémant, but very similar in style. Santa can definitely bring me a case of this one.
• Awards: Decanter gold medal 95/100
• Notes: Green apple, mineral and hazelnut notes, and a fine, frothy mousse. Crisp and refreshing.

OTHER BEST SUPERMARKET SPARKLING WINES 2026

We’re not quite done yet, bargain hunters. This final section includes a short list of affordable sparkling wines in varying styles. Some are traditional, others are relatively new and represent great value for money.

We’ll move from sweet and semi-sweet Asti to drier examples of fizz such as South African méthode cap classique, and then on to a couple of less common types of sparkling rosé and red wines.

First up, two award-winning sweet Asti spumante examples:

Exceptional by Asda Asti NV | £4.75

• Classic version of this sweet wine at a low, low price. Try serving with desserts such as strawberries and cream, or fruity cheesecake. << PENNY’S PICK: best sweet sparkler

• Notes: Textbook example of Asti wine with floral and tropical nose, fruity freshness and a long, honeyed finish.

• A lovely light, fragrant wine that’s been made for over 100 years. Decent quality brand and easy to find.

• Notes: Flavours of pear, green apple and peach, balanced sweetness with a fresh finish, and soft sparkling mousse.

Now on to a much drier sparkling wine that’s amazing for something under £10:

Aldi Specially Selected Méthode Cap Classique Brut NV | £9.99

• South African alternative to Champagne, crafted from a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir blend.
• Awards: IWC silver medal 92/100
• Notes: Citrus and crisp in style with balanced acidity, toasty brioche notes and a touch of oak.

Two bargain pink sparkling wines now, one medium-sweet and one more dry:

Asda Lucotto Moscato Rosé Demi Sec | £5.00

• On the half-sweet side, but not too sweet. Works well as an aperitif.
• Awards: Decanter silver medal 91/100, IWC silver medal 90/100
• Notes: Floral nose, strawberry and citrus flavours, slightly sweet and easy drinking with refreshing acidity.

Waitrose Loved and Found Vermentinu Rosé Brut | £9.50

• French sparkling wine from Corsica. Serve as an aperitif, or pair with shellfish or creamy cheese dishes.

• Notes: Floral and lychee aromas, pleasantly frothy texture with berry and citrus notes and a fresh finish.

Sparkling red wines are having a moment. If you want to get in on the red lambrusco trend, try one of these two medal winning bottles:

Asda Riunite Sparkling Red | £6.75

• An easy drinking red fizz from Emilia-Romagna in Italy, made from lambrusco grapes. Try serving with antipasti or pizza.

• Notes: Fruity aroma with violet notes, vibrant and juicy flavour with red berries, and a slightly tannic, well-balanced structure.

M&S Dry Reggiano Lambrusco NV | £8.00

• Yes, another dry (secco) sparkling red on the winners’ podium for 2026, this time the viral TikTok sensation from M&S. Serve lightly chilled with antipasti. [I confess I’m not a big fan of this one, but it has won two medals so will include here for the sake of being thorough]
• Awards: IWC silver medal 91/100, IWSC silver medal 90/100
• Notes: Floral and bramble aromas, tangy dry fruit on the palate, ‘spiky’ mouthfeel from the bubbles.
