Summer NOT on Holiday Challenge: Relaxing ‘by the pool’

It’s the final weekend of our thrifty Summer ‘NOT on Holiday’ Challenge, and this weekend’s theme is Relaxing ‘by the pool’. While we might get a week or two away on holiday, chances are we’ll be at home for the rest of those summery months – let’s choose some ways to get that holiday feeling on our UK weekends off.
What’s the idea for Week Four? Well, there comes a point towards the end of most holidays where you get to sit by the pool and catch up on your reading. Maybe do a little people watching too, if that’s your thing.
Some inspiration for your weekend
This final weekend is all about really relaxing and winding down. For example you could:
- Borrow books or audiobooks from the library
- Buy a paperback or ebook
- Download a free or paid podcast
- Make a playlist of music that makes you think of holidays
- Simply watch people go by, or look at the clouds
- Have a bit of a digital detox
- Eat ice cream in the back garden
- Have a nap in a hammock

Try to avoid checking your non-essential emails, looking at stressful news, watching screechy stuff on TikTok or generally doomscrolling on social media. It’s supposed to be nice and relaxing.
If the weather’s pleasant, put your sunscreen on and grab a water bottle and a hat. Sit on a balcony or in a back garden, or head to a local park, pond or lido.
Alternatively, if the weatherโs terrible where you are, stay at home and get cosy, or run out to a nearby cafe.
Take it easy and catch up on your reading, or podcasts, or whatever else you’re enjoying today.
