We won another award, and it’s for SEO metrics – surprise!
If you weren’t already aware, this site was out of action for six months and I’ve just started the resurrection process. So imagine my surprise when an email arrived just 12 days after getting started again, telling me that www.pennygolightly.com had won an award.
‘Ah,’ I thought. ‘It’s a welcome back award. How very kind. Nothing like a bit of encouragement when you have a long road ahead.’
But lo and behold, when I clicked through I found that this site had actually won the Mighty Site award over at TotallyMoney. It isn’t based on encouragement, it’s based on metrics.
In their own words: ‘We’ve aggregated SEOmoz Rank, Google Rank, Alexa Rank and SEOmoz Links to work out your Site Strength Score. Comparing Site Strength stats from September and August, we found the most popular within the TotallyMoney Top Blogs List.’
Yes, that’s right, we’ve been back for 12 days and we’ve won an award for SEO.
I’d like to point out that nothing on this site is ever written from an SEO perspective, it’s all just things that catch my eye, or that I feel passionate about, or that I think people might like to read. I’m not saying SEO is wrong, far from it, but it just goes to show that original content basically SEOs itself. To whom it may concern: I rest my case.
Oh, and before I forget, we were also finalists in the Finance section of the 2011 Shorty Awards. I couldn’t tell you about it at the time, but now I can say a huge thank you to everyone who voted – you were wonderful and your support is greatly appreciated. Thanks also to TotallyMoney for their perfect timing and fabulous award.
Onwards and upwards.
Well done Penny – see it was definitely worth coming back!!! But forgive me if I’m being a bit dim – can you tell us what SEO means? I’m assuming it’s some kind of internet search type thing but I dont’ really know much about that!!!!
Hi Jackie, thank you for your kind comments. SEO is short for Search Engine Optimisation. Here’s a quick explanation:
Basically, if you write or present content in a certain way, it makes it easier for search engines like Google to find you, which brings more people/traffic to your site. It can happen organically or you can be more deliberate about it. Taking it too far leads to crappy content.
Aaahh, I see – very clever!! Well done you!
Congrats! Well deserved.
Knew I found a great site (by SEO) the other week!
Just to ad, I am trying to help revive the forum so please look in and I will post some tips, recipe’s etc
Thanks everyone! xx
