Twinings Plummy Earl Grey tea review

Twinings Plummy Earl Grey flavour tea review Penny Golightly

This week’s Treat Under a Tenner is Twinings Plummy Earl Grey flavour tea – one of the new luxurious releases from the world famous tea merchants.

If you haven’t tried any of the teas from the new ranges yet then you’re definitely in for a treat. They’re made up in loose leaf pyramid bags to let the tea brew nicely, and the blends are all something out of the ordinary.

The Twinings Plummy Earl Grey is a really unusual flavour and I’ve never tried anything like it, even though I’ve given most other variations on Earl Grey tea a go already.

The blend is a mixture of black teas, star anise, and bergamot and plum flavours. After brewing it for the recommended 3 to 5 minutes, I sampled it both with and without milk.

The star anise is just a soft back note, the black tea is fairly strong, and the bergamot / citrus balances very nicely with the fruity plum. It’s a very interesting blend, and is something I’ll be drinking occasionally when I need a treat that has a bit of a caffeine kick to it.

These are definitely not everyday teas, they’re more for when you’re taking a moment out of your day and savouring a decent brew, because every now and again it’s good to have a tiny treat. When I have a moment, I’ll be picking up a few other teas in the Twinings loose leaf pyramid range and reviewing those as well.

Twinings Plummy Earl Grey flavour tea has an RRP of £3.49 for a pouch of 12 pyramid bags. They’re currently £3.00 at Tesco, £3.49 at Sainsbury’s, and £3.49 at Ocado.

  1. I love a good cup of tea and I am most certainly partial to a mug of Earl Gray.

It’s funny because for years I would only ever have PG tips with milk. It has only been in the last 10 or so months that I’ve tried different varieties. This is mainly down to trying to be more healthy!

I’ve actually just posted about a PG tips freebie on Skint Dad which you might be interested in? Check it out here:

Right, I going to put the kettle on ;D
