The £10 spring makeup challenge: night out looks

After the last few days of looking at brilliant value makeup, and finding some great discounts, it’s time to pull the last two looks together for some more dramatic ‘big night out’ effects. These were originally going to be sourced from all round the high street, but there’s a 3-for-2 sale on all Superdrug cosmetics right now so let’s max it out!

To save the most money during these offers, remember to make your purchases in multiples of three and to group similarly-priced items together – even if that means going to the till twice. This is because the cheapest items are always automatically discounted during any given transaction.

For example, if your basket contains three items priced £5 each, plus one item for £1, you will only save £1 if you buy all 4 at the same time. However, if you pay for only the three items priced £5 all together then you will save the full £5, and you can go back to the till and buy the £1 item separately afterwards.

Look 1 – Girly or vampy

sleek i Divine Special best cheap makeup under £10 Penny Golightly

  • Sleek i Divine palette in Oh So Special, £7.99. Great quality, nicely pigmented shades, and very easy to blend.
  • MUA powder blusher in Shade 2, £1.00. A pinky-nude to apply lightly or layer, with great colour payoff for the price.
  • MUA lipstick in Shade 11 (dark pink-brown) or 16 (Petal, peach), £1.00. Dab a little over lip balm or layer for full effect.
  • MUA nail polish in Moody Mink (muted mauve) or Amaretto Crush (peachy pink), £1.00.

The Superdrug 3-for-2 offer just brings this in on budget by saving the extra £1, and you can create lots of different looks because the palette has so many different shades in it (pastels, darks, mattes and shimmers) and the blusher and lipstick colours can be built up or sheered out.

Look 2 – Bronzed or bold

best cheap makeup superdrug offer 2 Penny Golighly

  • MUA Undressed palette, £4.00. Uncannily similar to the bestselling Urban Decay ‘Naked’ palette, and impressively good formulation for the price tag.
  • MUA Blush Perfection cream blusher in Blossom, £2.00. Subtle peachy-nude with staying power.
  • NYC Smooch Proof lip stain in orange or red, £3.99. Strong, long lasting colours, as good as products 2x the price.
  • Barry M Gelly Hi Shine nail polish in Satsuma (hot orange) or Blood Orange (scarlet), £3.99. Worth every penny and more.

Again, this palette contains products that punch well above their weight, and there’s enough variety in there to create several different looks, including lovely smoky eyes.
