Tenner Week Sep 2015: Day 1
It’s Day 1 of our latest Tenner Week challenge and today’s activity is making a menu for the week.
Have a look around for any leftovers and perishable goods, and check when they’ll need to be eaten by. If you can’t eat them right away, think of other ways to avoid waste such as freezing them.
To make the most of leftovers, try the LoveFoodHateWaste website for inspiration and information. If you prefer apps, try the leftovers recipes and ideas on the LoveFoodHateWaste app, or the Love Your Leftovers app.
Next, look at your diary, and work out when you’ll be out in the evening, coming home late from work, or taking it easy with time on your hands. Sketch out a menu for the week, including:
- Breakfasts
- Lunches
- Dinners
- Snacks
- Drinks
If possible, try to include five portions of vegetables or fruits each day as well. For more inspiration, browse a few recipe sites and blogs such as the ones below:

What I’m up to
I’ll be planning my menu with the contents of my fridge and freezer, the fruit bowl, the spice rack and the baking box. There’s also some cous cous and noodles, and tins of fruit and vegetables, so we should be ok.
Over to you
How are you getting on so far? Is there anything in the week’s schedule that you’re looking forward to, or worried about?
Lookin 4ward 2 gettin started….seems like ages since my last tenner week! Good luck everybody!?
I’ve posted my menu plan for the next 5 days on my Facebook page. I’ve a fair idea what I’ll be eating over the weekend too but will wait and see how the weekdays go first! x
Hi Alli – yes, it has been a while. We should have Tenner Weeks on here more often, so I’ll have a think about that and work out some more activities for people. We’ll definitely have one in January and maybe at the end of February.
Hi Leanne, good plan. You’re going to be eating well for the next few days. Enjoy! Must remember to take a pic of my food planner for the week and post it somewhere too, probably Twitter…

hi everyone, hope you’ve all had a good day?
I’ve more or less planned food for the week. Managed to use up sausages & meatballs from freezer tonight, with pasta from store cupboard and potatoes that were on their way out.
Tomorrow is chicken and spinach curry that I cooked on Sunday and froze.
I’ve soaked porridge and sultanas for tomorrow’s breakfast and made salad with fruit & nuts for tomorrow’s lunch.
I took my own cappuccino to drink on the way to work so a no spend day for me. Tomorrow night is dancing lessons (already paid from) so in theory no spend tomorrow too???
Post food planner on here penny I don’t do Twitter only FB x
Hi Nikki – that’s a great start to the week. Hope you save lots of money with all this planning ahead!
I’ll put a pic of the menu on Facebook as well, just for you 😉 But don’t get too excited ‘cos it’s mainly scribbles on a mini whiteboard 😉
