Tenner Week March 2023: Day 3
Hello again. We’ve made it to Day Three, and I hope everyone’s doing well so far.
Today’s activity is called ‘Spring renewal‘ and we’re looking for any financial commitments you have that might be coming up for renewal in the next few weeks or months. In particular we’re looking for anything that’s paid annually – these sorts of fees can easily be forgotten about and then creep up on us.
As it’s midweek, this one’s going to be fairly quick. All you have to do is the following:
- Check your records to find anything that renews annually.
- Add a note to your calendar or diary so you’re alerted a month before each bill is due (this should give you plenty of time to shop around for a better deal.)
In case you need to give your memory a jog, look out for:
- Home contents insurance
- Buildings insurance
- Car insurance
- Vehicle Excise Duty (AKA road tax or car tax)
- Professional insurance
- Critical illness cover
- Annual travel insurance
- Car insurance
- Domain renewal, webhosting
- …and so on
If you find any payments today that’ll be due in the next month, you can either look at other deals in the marketplace immediately or make a note to do some quick research at the weekend.
What’s happening here
Yesterday I went out and ran a few errands but I deliberately left my cards and phone at home to avoid the temptation of nearby shops and cafes. At least I got some fresh air though. The rest of the day was spent working at home, and doing all kinds of admin.
We had a quiet evening at home in front of the telly, and I made a quick veggie sausage casserole and mash for dinner. There’s enough for a leftovers lunch today, with two of us working from home.
I’m going to be having a quick look through my bank and credit card records this afternoon, and I already know I have a couple of annual payments coming up. I’ll do some price comparison on Sunday when things are less busy.
Total spent so far: £0.
How is your budget for the week looking so far? Have you had to buy any essentials yet?
