Tenner Week March 2017: Day 4
It’s Day Four of our all-singing, all-dancing, all-spring-cleaning Tenner Week challenge. How’s life treating you? By the way, if you need a reminder of the Tenner Week rules or the Spring Clean schedule then just click on those links to find out more.
Today’s activity is to sort out flooring, carpets or rugs. It’s completely up to you whether you want to spend a little or a lot of time on this, depending on your personal situation and preferences.
For example, you could do any of the following:
- Sweep hard floors in one or more rooms
- Mop a vinyl or tiled floor
- Wax, oil or buff a wooden floor
- Wipe around skirting boards in one or more rooms
- Beat a rug or doormat to get it clean
- Air a rug or carpet if the weather’s okay
- Vacuum areas that tend to get missed: carpet edges, room corners or under furniture
- Brush or vacuum your stairs clean
- Hoover in one or more rooms
- Use a carpet shampooing machine in one or more areas
If you don’t have any time for this today, don’t forget that you can do this task at the weekend if you prefer. The activities are all designed so that they’re flexible, and can be done in a burst on one day if that suits your needs better.
There’s also the budgeting challenge to be thinking about. Have you broken into your £10 yet? How much do you have left?
What’s happening here
Yesterday we ran out of milk and I went out and bought a four-pinter because it’s much better value than buying one pint on its own. I also bought a rare packet of crisps to use as a reward because I had a lot of writing to do on Wednesday. I love crisps even if I don’t buy them very often, and when I’m writing I have one every time I finish a paragraph. Sounds silly, but it works for me.
We’re continuing to eat well, and I’m still concentrating on getting plenty of fruit and vegetables. Last night we had sausages from the freezer, with potato-swede mash, broccoli and green beans, mustard and gravy. A nice hearty dish for cheering up a cold, grey day. I also did a home workout, and watched some Netflix in the evening. I’m not doing the TV Diet this time around, but I will probably do one during the next Tenner Week, whenever that may be.
I’m planning on doing a full vacuum clean of the house, including wiping all the skirting boards, and using an edge-cleaning tool to get all the carpets into tip-top shape. However this is going to take a while and I have quite a lot of work on at the moment, so I’m deferring this to the rainiest day over the weekend – I’d rather do a proper job when I have some more time, and I’m planning on doing a big blitz towards the end of the week when I can give everything my full attention.
Total spent so far: £1.59
