Save the Date: New Tenner Week challenge Monday 20th March
As promised there’s a new Tenner Week challenge coming up for the last week of March. It’s completely free to join in, so let’s get our budget on and see how much we can save.
The theme this time around is ‘Leak Week‘, and we’re going to be playing money detective. Where are all those annoying places where the cash is leaking out of your budget? Time to hunt them down, large or small, and show them no mercy.
Of course, the answer to the question ‘whodunnit?’ is probably going to be YOU in most cases, but let’s not allow that to get in the way of a good saving, eh?
The challenge officially starts on Monday the 20th of March, and there will be a new activity to try every day, including at least one thing that costs nothing. They’re designed to be simple and fit around each other, so if you’re extra busy on one or more of the days then you can just catch up at the weekend.
There will also be a quick optional Sunday Stocktake you might like to join in with on the 19th. While it’s not compulsory, it’s always a helpful way to get organised for the week ahead. I like to have a reminder of all the resources that are available to me, ranging from interesting UFOs (unidentifiable frozen objects) at the bottom of the freezer to fitness equipment, books and craft materials. Yeah, hashtag #blessed, #grateful and all that.
Due to high inflation and the general cost of living crisis there will now be a choice of two ways to budget for the week:
- A) Allow yourself £10 for personal ‘pocket money’, and try to keep all your other spending as low as possible, or
- B) Allow an ‘all-in’ budget of £25 for your share of household groceries and a tiny treat or two for yourself.
I did Option A during the February Tenner Week challenge with mixed – mostly positive – results, so this time around I’ll be trying out Option B and budgeting for £25 all in. No idea how that’s going to work out, but let’s give it a go and see what happens.
Could you do with saving a few quid before payday? Who couldn’t? Hope you can join me this coming Sunday or on the Monday.
