Review of SmartBuyGlasses.co.uk

Here’s my SmartBuyGlasses.co.uk review. I’ve bought prescription glasses online before from a couple of different companies, mainly for convenience and to save money, and I’ve recently been given the opportunity to try another internet retailer’s services.

SmartBuyGlasses is an international business selling glasses, sunglasses, sports glasses and contact lenses, and you can buy the frames alone or with prescription lenses. In particular I was drawn to their large selection of designer frames, where there were some really lovely reduced price designs in their Spring sale and Clearance section.

I chose a pair of Balenciaga BA5017 glasses frames for women in Havana colourway, which is a dark tortoiseshell. They have lightweight frames and a fairly delicate frame thickness, as I suit less chunky glasses. These were reduced from £245.64 to £171.95, a reduction of 30%, and with prescription lenses they came to £200.95, which is a reasonable price for a well made and very flattering pair of specs.

It was good to see that the prescription lenses have a 24-month guarantee, and they all come with coatings that are anti-scratch, anti-reflective and anti-UV as standard, plus there’s a 100-day money back guarantee on the frames.

Many of the frames have a ‘try on’ option where you can use the camera on your laptop to fit the shape of the frames over an image of your own face, to see whether different styles and colours suit you. Unfortunately my favourite frames didn’t have this function available, but I’d tried a very similar pair on in a high street optician’s store the week before when I was visiting for my eye test, so I already knew they suited me. I’d definitely recommend trying a few on in person before buying online.

Ordering was straightforward and easy, and there was plenty of information on the product page. My new glasses arrived just over a week later, well packaged and sent from Hong Kong (particular frames may come from Milan or Hong Kong). They’re in excellent condition, the prescription is perfect, and I’m delighted with the quality and the way they look and feel. All in all, it’s been a good experience and I’ve been impressed by the service.
