Review & comp: Dig for Victory + Make do and Mend

Two book reviews for you today – both books will help you to save money, and they’re also just right for stocking fillers. They’re available from The Travelling Souk, along with all kinds of other gifts.

The first one is Dig for Victory, £4.99, a little book of tips for gardeners who want to grow their own fruit and vegetables on a budget. There are also several interesting quotes from famous names scattered throughout the text. The tips cover a wide range of subjects, including finding equipment, planting and tending, improving the soil, growing in containers, and controlling pests and diseases. There are also ideas for growing herbs and flowers as thriftily as possible.

While it isn’t a fully comprehensive guide to growing your own fruit and vegetables, it does cover rather a lot of ground. It contains just enough to get you started if you’re a beginner, and just enough to make you feel enthusiastic for the coming growing season if you’re a more experienced gardener.

The second is Make do and Mend, £4.99, which is full of money-saving advice for anyone who wants a cosy home. It also contains some interesting quotes and proverbs to motivate you to do more and save more. There are also lots of tips for upcycling, clothes care, cleaning, energy-saving, entertainment, decorating, and food and drink.

Some of the tips are new and unusual, and others are more traditional. However, it doesn’t hurt to be reminded here and there of a few of the classic ways to save the pounds and pence.
