Review: Aldi Moser Roth summer chocolates
As you probably know already, I’m a big fan of using different ranges from different supermarkets, and I try not to be too swayed by brand names or packaging. Sometimes this goes as far as arranging blind tastings, and so on. Well, try anything twice, that’s what I say.
And today, on behalf of my lovely readers, I have been trying out the new limited edition summer chocolate range from Aldi. The things I do for you, eh, dear readers? Anyway, on with the review.
The Moser Roth mousse-filled milk chocolate bars weigh in at a generous 187g per pack. Inside each rather pretty cardboard sleeve there are five individually wrapped bars. Each pack costs £1.69, so that works out at just under 34p for each individual bar.
The bars break into four chunks, and inside each piece there’s a light panna cotta or creamy style mousse topped with a fruity layer. There are three flavours to choose from: blueberry, raspberry and passion fruit. The bars are 55% milk chocolate by weight, and the chocolate is 32% cocoa solids minimum. Happily, there are no artificial flavours or colourings included.
The blueberry version is pleasant and refreshing, the raspberry one is fruity but perhaps not as strongly flavoured as the others, and by far my favourite is the passion fruit version. It’s incredibly tangy and flavourful, with a good balance between sweetness and acidity. The chocolate flavour itself is fairly subdued, and the cream and fruit flavours are stronger.
To sum up, the individual bars are just the right size for taking on a decadent picnic, or for a nice little treat after dinner. I recommend trying the passion fruit flavour one first.
