Penny Choose: Taylors Sweet Rhubarb tea
“One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous small treats.” Wise words from novelist Iris Murdoch. I’d also like to add that the best ones are easily affordable too, so you aren’t worrying about your finances.
Today we’re having some Sweet Rhubarb tea from Taylors of Harrogate as the Treat under a Tenner. You know how most herbal and fruit teas smell amazing but don’t always deliver on the flavour? That’s not something you need to worry about with this one – it does smell pleasantly sweet, but the rhubarb flavour only really comes through when you drink it.
As well as rhubarb, it also contains sweet blackberry leaves and apple, among other things, so they’ve cleverly avoided the strange vegetable-y flavour of raw rhubarb. It tastes more like stewed rhubarb instead, which is a Good Thing.
It caught my eye because I’ve been cutting back on caffeine recently and wanted to find an interesting alternative to the usual tea break brew. It’s a tasty and unusual hot drink, and I’m also looking forward to trying it out as iced tea on warmer days.
You get 20 individually wrapped tea bags in each box, and it retails for £2.99 per pack. Available at Tesco, Waitrose and Ocado, and the gift shop at Kew Gardens.
