Penny Choose: E.L.F. Moisturising Lipstick in Velvet Rope

Aaahh, party time is upon us! And it’s time for a lovely slutty eyecatching red lipstick for a total bargain price.

ELF Studio Moisturizing Lipstick velvet rope moisturising

This lipstick is my go-to colour for a big night out, and it ticks all the boxes. Fire engine red (warm tones), smooth to apply, wears well and not drying. I’ve never found any moisturising lipstick that functions as effectively as a lip balm, but this does give some moisturisation via the shea butter and is a lot more comfortable to wear than most other brands – a bonus during the winter months when cold weather and harsh winds can wreak havoc on delicate skin.

The colour is striking, with a great level of pigment. Far better than anything else I’ve tried in that price bracket. It also leaves a light colour stain behind so it doesn’t wear off unevenly and start looking strange after you’ve had a cocktail and canape or two. Like all moisturising types of lipstick, it isn’t the longest lasting sort, but it does stand up to a moderate amount of wear.

By the way, if a bright hot red isn’t for you, there’s also the ‘Red Carpet’ lipstick in the same range. It’s more off a classic true red that’s more neutral-to-cool in tone, and has a touch of Hollywood glamour about it. Or you might prefer Flirty & Fabulous (fuchsia), Wink Pink (neutral soft pink) or Ravishing Rose (darker pink / berry colour).

E.L.F. moisturising lipstick in Velvet Rope costs just £3.95, and you can sometimes find it for much less when discount codes are available.

Have you tried this product, or do you have another bargain-priced ‘party red’ lipstick that you can recommend?
