Jump Start: Tenner Week: Day 7 Sell Something Sunday
Hello! It’s the final day of this Tenner Week now, and today we’re going to go back to the three items we picked out on Wednesday – it’s time to put them up for sale.
It depends on what you’re hoping to sell, but try to pick out the method that will put the most money in your pocket. For example, if you have three books to offload you’ll probably make more by selling them individually than by selling them to a bulk buyer, as long as you don’t end up having to pay fees for non-selling items.
What are your main options?
- Amazon Marketplace
- eBay
- eBid
- Free classified ads: Gumtree, Craigslist, Preloved, local paper, local facebook group etc
- Games exchanges (Grainger, CeX, Game + a bit of haggling)
- Mobile phone sales sites (eBay, or find the best deal via comparemymobile.com or sellmymobile.com comparison sites)
- Clothing marketplaces (e.g. Vinted app)
- Sell to friends and family, or coworkers etc
If you only have three things to sell, don’t even think about about bulk selling options or doing a car boot sale!
This does mean you will have more time per item to create a catchy, detailed listing, and in turn this small investment of effort could well get you a better sale price if you’re using an auction-style sale.
If you’re selling on eBay (which is still the best option for many things, in spite of the hike in final fees and PayPal fees), then do a 1-week listing today so that it ends next Sunday afternoon or evening. This time of the week will get you the most people bidding and if you’re lucky there might even be a mini price-war among the buyers.
What are you going to sell? How / where are you going to get the best price?
What’s happening here?
I’m looking forward to a quiet, relaxed Sunday evening, after a week of being out and about, and having visitors to stay. The plan is to have a ‘deli dinner’ which is basically what we call cold cuts, bits of cheese, salad etc, to use things up and also to have a break from cooking. We’re probably going to go out for a walk as well, if the weather’s nice, and try to have a no-spend day to round off the week.
I’ll let you know tomorrow what the final Tenner Week tally is. Fingers crossed…
Well done gettin yer stuff listed. I ave so much stuff sittin in my spare room waitin 2 b photographed & put on Ebay. Most of it is baby clothes & stuff. I had been usin the “seasonal” excuse 4 not avin done it yet, no point listin winter clothes in the summer time after all! If I’m honest tho I think I’m just strugglin 2 part wif it. I’m hopin 2 make a start on it this week tho, I’v decided 2 put a % of the £ made in2 our baby’s bank a/c as an incentive 2 get it done!
Hi Allison, it can be really hard to part with things that have sentimental value, even if they’re causing a lot of clutter. If you take lots of photographs of the baby clothes and keep the pictures safe, you’ll always have a nice reminder of them.
