Jump Start January: Week 4: Day 6
Day 27 of Jump Start January – how are you doing? Today’s activity is to exercise to music for at least 20 minutes, and preferably for 45 minutes to one hour.
Dancing is excellent aerobic exercise that raises your general fitness level and stamina. It’s also helpful for balance, co-ordination and general toning.
Types of dancing you could try:
- Zumba classes
- Kinect dance games
- Ballet for beginners/adults
- Salsa
- Aerobics with music
- Lindy hop, jive etc
There’s a dance class, DVD or YouTube tutorial for pretty much anything and everything you can think of.
If none of that appeals, you can dance around your bedroom for an hour instead. Singing along is entirely optional, and you can dance as badly, or as well, as you want to.
Alternative activity: If you absolutely hate dancing, that’s OK. Make yourself a playlist of your favourite motivating music and listen to it while you take another type of exercise. See if it helps you keep up the pace and duration.
Here at Golightly Towers I will not be dancing along to any pappy pop or cheesy dance music. This means I’m going to have to pull out all the stops to create a rock and roll playlist, and dance around the house. Apologies in advance to the neighbours.
What are you doing to get up to? A proper dance class, or your own music?

I’ve been getting into Zumba recently – felt so good after doing it!
