Jump Start January: Plan for Week 4

Day 22 of Jump Start January, and it’s time for Healthy Week. Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be extortionately expensive. You don’t need a fancy home gym and a personal trainer to get yourself into great shape – it’s more about keeping active on a daily basis, and eating simple, healthy food.

The following week will get you back on track if you’re hoping to improve your fitness levels, and get a general sense of wellbeing. It’s a good reminder of how straightforward and cheap it can all be too.

Here’s the lineup for the week:

  • Day 1: Get outdoors
  • Day 2: Dust it off and use it
  • Day 3: Healthy eating
  • Day 4: Stretching and resting
  • Day 5: Join a friend
  • Day 6: Get up and dance
  • Day 7: Tone and relax

If you haven’t exercised for a while, have a health condition or are recovering from injury, or are pregnant, please consult your GP before starting any exercise. Also, if you’re doing any aerobic activity or other strenuous exercise, protect your joints and your feet and wear a decent pair of trainers if required.

Start any exercises slowly, and remember to warm up and cool down on days when you’re exerting yourself.

It takes a few weeks to fully raise your fitness levels, but the next few days should get you off to a respectable, sustainable start. The same goes for the healthy eating and wellbeing exercises, so you’ll soon start feeling the benefits.

If you’re too busy during the week to do one activity a day, you can make it up at the weekend by doing the short versions of each day’s exercise. There are also some rest days mixed in with the exercise, so you won’t end up overdoing it.

Do you have any tips of your own for exercise or a healthy lifestyle on a budget? Please share them.
