Jump Start Jan: Personal Finance Week: Day 2

tidy paperwork day 2 personal finance week Jump Start 2014Today’s task is to sort out some of your financial records. If there’s a real mess, don’t try to do everything all at once, just pick one type of electronic record or paperwork and stick to that.

Make or buy a new folder, document box, dividers, labels etc if they’re needed, otherwise it won’t stay reorganised for long.

You could sort out any of the following today:

  • Current account statements
  • Credit card statements
  • Loans paperwork
  • Pension paperwork
  • Business records
  • Guarantees
  • Insurance
  • Deeds
  • Shares/investment information
  • Hire purchase agreements

If the amount of work needed seems too daunting, set a timer. It’s amazing how much you can get done during 15 minutes when the clock is ticking. Just remember to pick one thing to tidy, rather than trying to fix every single bit of filing.

One the other hand, if you’re a tidy and organised sort of person, all you might really need to do is buy a new folder or make a new spreadsheet for 2014, so you can start as you mean to go on.

What’s happening here?

Tidying up some business records, both paper and spreadsheets. Shouldn’t take too long because the files are already set up, and partly filled in.

What are you going to sort out today?
