Ines de la Fressange for UNIQLO Spring 2020 launch

There’s nothing quite like a high street collaboration launch to cheer up your wardrobe and snag yourself some designer style for less – and Ines de la Fressange for UNIQLO is always worth a look. She’s just launched her Spring / Summer 2020 collection for the Japanese brand today, and there are some real bargains in there for adding to your wardrobe staples.

Her available collection includes 66 basic shapes (already selling fast), and a variety of different colourways. There are lots of neutrals, especially beige, white and off-white, but also navy, black, brown and denim to build up those mix and match basics. Patterns include polka dots, pinstripes, and floral and animal prints.

This Spring the launch includes three main themes, all inspired by events, styles and movements from the 1920s, so look out for the vintage hints. The first theme is the 1920s Olympics which were held in France, so this section is very sporty and androgynous (see images above and below), with a definite nod towards tennis and athletics.

Theme two (see the two images below) is a slightly gamine take on the French cowboy / cowgirl, and includes cropped cigarette trousers, straight cut and tailored jackets, and long shirts. This is mostly easy to wear cool girl style with a touch of vintage gaucho, and the prices are very reasonable given the obvious designer inspiration at play here.

The third and final inspiration of the Ines de la Fressange SS2020 collection for UNIQLO is described as ‘Muse’ (see below), and it’s made up of more feminine blouses, skirts and dresses, many of which have floral patterns, crossover designs, pleats, frills and ruffles. This is the pretty section, and again there’s a large nod to the 1920s in the cut and the styling.

If you can’t see a dress shape that you like, nearly all the prints are echoed in a variety of tops, blouses and shirts so you can put a 2-piece together that’s more your style.
