The hottest trend for party season this year is silver, especially sterling silver jewellery, metallic accessories, and silver sequinned clothes. It’s futuristic, and it’s fun, fun, fun. Here’s how to get a little sparkle and shine into your outfits without, er, spending all your silver.
The most popular silver jewellery falls into two main categories. One is large, modern pieces with organic or liquid shapes, and the other type is jewellery set with sparkly stones to catch and cast the light. Layer them up for special occasions, then once the festive season’s over use a piece or two sparingly here and there for everyday use.
Maanesten Sterling Silver Jules Necklace | £53.00 (in sale)
I’m a raving fan of the whole Maanesten range of recycled sterling silver jewellery, with its unusual molten shapes and irregular surfaces. Their Jules necklace, 43cm long, is on sale at the moment, and I especially like the way it manages to look a bit punk and bold but also pretty. For anyone who’s feeling a bit rock and roll this Christmas and beyond. FIND HERE: Argento
John Greed Signature Sterling Silver CZ Entwined Jewellery Set | £55.20 (in offer)
John Greed sell all kinds of silver jewellery, and their own-brand designs are well curated. This is one of their most popular sterling silver and cubic zirconia necklaces in a gift set with the matching pair of earrings. Wear alone for daytime or layer up for evening. FIND HERE: John Greed
Bijoux & Belle Wish Upon A Star Necklace | £25.00
This delicate sterling silver necklace is perfect for adding some subtle sparkle, and would make a lovely gift. It’s made on an adjustable sterling silver chain (14″ to 16″) so you can wear it at a length to suit, either choker or just below the collar bones on most people. I especially like this layered with other sparkly necklaces for evenings out. Everything arrives beautifully packaged, and a percentage of the proceeds are donated to domestic abuse charities. Pilgrim silver plated Chantal pebbles ring | £27.99
This pebbles ring from Pilgrim is silver plated and made from recyled materials, and it has a striking organic shape that can be gently adjusted to fit most fingers. A fun piece of costume jewellery, and most of their range is unisex for a contemporary look. FIND HERE: Argento
Bloom Boutique Crystal Huggie Hoop Freshwater Pearl Earrings | £30.00
Bloom Boutique specialise in personalised jewellery and gifts, and many of their pieces are sterling silver. It’s a great place to get something thoughtful for a loved one (or meaningful for yourself) without breaking the bank, including engraved items and birthstone jewellery. I chose these delicate pearl drop huggies because pearls are having a fashion moment and they’re set with cubic zirconia for a bit of extra bling. You can wear them without the pearl drops for work or low-key weekend looks too. FIND HERE: Bloom Boutique
Argento sterling silver triple layer crystal ring | £30.00
Argento is one of those shops where you really have to do a bit of trawling, but you always turn up something interesting and often it’s a bit of a bargain. This is one of their own brand sterling silver rings, and it really brings the bling. For those evenings when you absolutely positively need to be seen from space (which happens more than I’d care to admit). FIND HERE: Argento
Jewellery Box sterling silver oval liquid hoop earrings | £19.00
There’s an extensive collection of recycled sterling silver earrings, necklaces and more at Jewellerybox, who have long been known for affordable jewellery. It’s definitely worth a look for a range of styles, many of which would make nice stocking fillers. The metal itself is recycled, so each item is new rather than second hand. I especially like these large liquid hoop earrings, £19.00, for giving a lift to contemporary outfits. FIND HERE: Jewellery Box
Acotis Thomas Sabo Sterling Silver White Zirconia Solitaire Ring | £79.00
If you’re looking for famous name brands at competitive prices, Acotis Jewellery is well worth a look, and they have all kinds of pendants, sets and cocktail rings. There’s something for most tastes and budgets, from showstopping diamonds to plainer silver pieces. I picked out this Thomas Sabo sterling silver ring for a bit of party sparkle on more dressed-up nights out, accessorised with a cocktail or two, of course. FIND HERE: Acotis Jewellery
RAID Lianna Western Ankle Boots in Silver Metallic | £39.99
These are just a whole load of OTT, and I can see myself wearing these in those ‘jeans and a nice top’ moments over the festive season. There are plenty of silver toned ankle boots around at the moment, but I think these give you the best style for the price. Also very handy for those awkward moments when one of the judges on Bake Off is off sick and you have to step in and cover for them at short notice. FIND HERE: RAID London
ASOS DESIGN Strut slingback mid heeled shoes in silver | £28.00

ASOS DESIGN chainmail shoulder bag in silver | £26.00
What’s that you say? You want a spangly silver chainmail bag that makes you think of Paco Rabanne? And you want it for less than £30? Well, that’s quite a tall order but I do really love a challenge and baby you are not going to want to miss out on this one. FIND HERE: ASOS
