Four little treats for May and June
If you like to try something new every now and again, and get yourself a little payday treat, it makes sense to look for things that represent really good value for money.
So here are four favourite recent finds of mine that I think are well worth a look, and will fit into most budgets. Here we go, it’s tiny treats time!
Barry M Sheer Strength Hardening Nail Paint | £4.49
Barry M has released four new sheer nail paint colours for summery looks, to give nails a subtle hint of colour. They’re very easy to apply and wear, and they also contain hexanal to strengthen the nails. Their berry/cherry shade ‘Sheer Delight’ seems to be the most popular so far this season, in keeping with 2025 trends. As with all Barry M products they’re cruelty free, and they’re vegan too.
The first Sheer Strength nail paints were launched last year, in a range of nude shades to give you that my-nails-but-better appearance. The sheerness means they go on lighter than they look in the bottle, while still giving a chic catwalk-inspired finish. My favourite everyday colour is Sheer Bliss, which is close to my natural nail colour and smartens bare nails up with minimal fuss.

Silver lightning bolt huggie earrings with CZ stones | £12.95
Sometimes you fancy a little bit of low-key bling in your life, and these sterling silver earrings have been adding a sparkle to my everyday outfits recently. They’re small huggies with dangling lightning bolt charms attached them, with a few tiny cubic zirconia to catch the light.
If you ever find yourself needing to channel your inner Ziggy Stardust, try a pair of these. Rock and roll, baby. I’ve been a customer of this company for years: they’re reliable and they have lots of other lovely items if you’re looking for a small gift or a payday treat.

Q + A Amino Acid Oil Free Moisturiser | RRP £9.00 for 75ml
A slightly strange name but a decent product. The amino acid, arginine, is a good ingredient, but it’s overhyped: there are plenty of other ingredients in here that are probably doing the real work. Anyway, it’s a nicely formulated non-greasy moisturiser that contains soothing aloe vera and allantoin, water-binding glycerin, niacinamide, green tea water, hydrating saccharide isomerate and more.
I like to wear this one under sunscreen in hot weather as it seems to avoid making my T-zone shiny. It would probably be best for combination and oily skin types, dehydrated normal skin and some sensitive types as well. Does not contain artificial fragrance, but you can smell the green tea when you first apply it. The tube contains 75ml which is bigger than most tubes of face cream, making the price even more reasonable.

Studio London Power Pout Tinted Gloss Balm | £4.00
This Superdrug own-brand product is a tinted balm with a bit of shine to it, it’s vegan and cruelty free, and it comes in four different colours. There’s good colour payoff, and it’s moisturising and comfortable without feeling goopy or sticky. No heavy fragrance or flavour, maybe a faint trace of vanilla.
It’s only £4 and it’s great value for money; nice for summery looks when you don’t want to pile on the makeup, but you still want to look put together. They say it lasts for 6 hours, but let’s be real here no balm product can last that long – it’s definitely cheap enough to keep reapplying after eating and drinking though.
