Five things I’m loving this week: Mid January 2019
It’s been a while since we had a roundup of the latest lovely things I’ve come across recently, so let me run you through a few treats and bargains for this week. As usual, most things here are under a tenner or reduced in a sale or offer, so they’re affordable as well as interesting or useful.
This time around we have books, cocktail goodies and beauty and skincare treats. See what you think!
The Green Roasting Tin by Rukmini Iyer | RRP £16.00, on sale for £10.99. This is an attractive cookbook based around warming roasts and bakes, perfect for chasing the wintery weather away, and it’s packed with interesting vegetarian and vegan recipes. I bought this to be inspired by the gorgeous pictures and shake myself out of a slight cooking rut, while trying to eat more veggies and generally be healthy(ish). I love it! Buy here.
Beauty Pie Wondercolour Cream Eyeshadow Stick in ‘Brazillionaire’ | I am no longer willing to recommend this company or its products.
The Bitter Truth Cocktail Bitters Bar Pack | £12.36 best price. A new, interesting 5-pack of travel sized bitters in a retro-styled storage tin from my favourite bitters company. If you haven’t completely sworn off all alcohol this month, a few drops of these bitters can make non-alcoholic drinks taste far more complex and interesting while only adding a tiny amount of alcohol to the total, or just go ‘full cocktail’. Particular favourites include the fragrant, juicy peach bitters, the olive bitters that turn still lemonade or tonic water into something close to a dirty martini, and the dark, dry, spicy chocolate bitters.
The following two items are not glam at all, but they have literally saved my skin. Having nice, presentable hands and feet is kind of glam though, right? Well, that’s what I’m telling myself anyway, and you might like them if you’ve been feeling under the weather lately.
Eucerin UreaRepair Plus Hand Cream | RRP £8.00 for 75ml, now £6.00 in sale. Don’t be put off by the name, this is an excellent quality hand cream that works wonders on dry and chapped wintery skin, and you only need a tiny dab as a little goes a very long way. Contains ceramide, natural moisturising factors, lactic acid and more in an impressive fragrance-free formula. Buy here.
Boots Hard Skin Reducing Cream | RRP £5.39, now £4.39 in sale. I picked one of these up because my feet had become as dry as the Sahara after various viruses and other illnesses had dragged on for weeks, and my usual foot balm had been discontinued (sob!). Combined with a gentle foot file, it does work as advertised and had my poor little feet looking healthy again within seven days. Buy here.
Full disclosure: I bought all of these with my own money, apart from the cocktail bitters which are a PR sample. I only recommend things if I love them and/or they’re great value for money.
