Five things I’m loving this week: 2020

It’s time for a few small and affordable treats, the first on the site this year! We’ve survived January, so let’s get back into the swing of it and look at a few nice little things that’ve been brightening up my week.
Bird and Blend gingerbread chai tea | From £5.95 for 15 tea bags, or £5.55 for 50g loose leaf tea. Buy here.
A roobios / redbush based tea that’s caffeine free and deliciously warming. I’m not the biggest fan of roobios on its own but the spices in this mean you don’t get that as the main flavour, just the sweet natural flavours of cinnamon and ginger coming through. Mix it with hot almond milk for a tasty gingerbread latte like they do in the Bird and Blend shop.
Superdrug B. Liquid Blush in Apricot | £4.66, in the 1/3 off promotion. Buy here.
Superdrug’s own brand cosmetics line, B., has had a revamp and their liquid blush is very, very similar to the Cloud Paint range by Glossier – but it’s less than a third of the price right now. The main difference between the ranges is that Superdrug has created a plum colour rather than a dark rose shade, but apart from that it’s a near-perfect like for like dupe.
I’ve been using up the light Apricot shade to warm up a pale wintery complexion. It’s easy to apply with fingertips and gives a soft natural tint to the cheeks. Lasting power is reasonable too, and at this price you can reapply without worrying about the price. Cruelty free and vegan as well. It’s a hit, well done Superdrug.
Faith in Nature grapefruit & orange body wash | £5.49 at Holland & Barrett and £5.50 at Boots. Buy here and here.
This body wash is ideal for getting an uplifting citrus hit on a dark, cold February morning, helping to wake you up with those zesty essential oils. Free from parabens, sodium lauryl sulphate and other potential nasties, and in a well labelled recyclable bottle.
Gets you squeaky clean and ready for the day, and I haven’t found that it irritates my sensitive skin so hopefully other people should find it fairly gentle. A little goes a long way if you use a shower puff or sponge. Speaking of which…
Calypso Relaxing Moment Body Sponge | £3.40 at Amazon UK. Buy here.
From the makers of Spontex sponges, this is something better for the environment – a fully biodegradable shower and bath sponge made from recycled cotton and linen. I’ve had mine for a few weeks and it’s a decent sized sponge that still looks as smart as the day I bought it. It’s pleasantly soft to use and not at all scratchy.
Colours may vary, which is the only slightly annoying thing, so here’s hoping they’ll become more readily available soon and that you’ll be able to buy your favourite shade.
House by John Lewis grey Elevation throw | £35.00. Buy here.
A tasselled throw with staggered geometric design for a relatively low price that’s a decent size (L200 x W150cm). We bought this for an extra layer on the bed but it would work just as well over a chair or sofa. The grey is calming but there’s also a peppy mustard colourway if you like it brighter.
