Christmas prep cooking day
It’s the final day of our Festive Prep Tenner Week, and today’s a day to get cooking. It’s time to see what you can prepare ahead of time to make life easier for yourself later.
Completely up to you what you make today, but here are a few ideas:
- Fruit cake
- Christmas pudding
- Sweet mincemeat
- Mince pies
- Party snacks
- Freezable starters
- Relishes, pickles or sauces
- Traditional side dishes to freeze
- Infused spirits, or fruits in brandy
- Pastry
- Fancy breads
- Spice bundles or mixes
There are plenty of ingredients here in the baking box, so I’m making some fancy breads to freeze, including a couple of tear and share loaves with different fillings and toppings. I was also going to make some spicy Mexican style chocolate cookies but we don’t have enough butter for that recipe, so that’ll have to wait for another time.
What’s happening here
Yesterday I made some dried orange slices with cloves, and Beau made some personalised photo calendars for relatives. Then we had a very healthy (not) fish finger sandwich each and went out to a free cinema screening. All in all a pleasant, relaxing day. I watched an hour and 5 minutes of TV when we got home too, bringing the total to 3 hours and 1 minute so far.
Today is hopefully going to be a no spend day, with cheese toasties, a walk in the park, some DIY around the house and a mini roast for dinner. Might also go on the exercise bike and watch a bit of TV later too, if there’s time.
Total spent yesterday: £0.00
Total spent so far this week: £7.75
How are things with you? Has anyone blown their budget or are you doing OK?
No cooking for me today – spent the day making a fabric stocking advent calendar from material I have had lying in the cupboard for ages. No spend to day – Husband treated me to the coffee last night which brings my weekly total to £7.10. I have throughly enjoyed this tenner week.
Hi there,
No news from you since sunday… We are missing you..What’s up next ???
Love, Pat
Hi Jo – you did it! Congratulations for sticking to the budget.
Hi Patricia – awww, it’s nice to be missed, thank you. Having a few technical problems but normal service will be resumed shortly 🙂
