AW 2025 easy Capsule Wardrobe ideas: Uniqlo one stop shop

I’m a big fan of a well thought out capsule wardrobe. They’re very cost effective, and it’s super easy to put a nice looking outfit together in a hurry.

This season I thought it would be interesting to try to pick out some essential capsule wardrobe items from just one shop. This time around that’s Uniqlo UK, mixing urban standard casual and smart casual clothing.

You may find you already own several similar items, such as nice jeans, a white shirt and so on, but you might want also to do a quick autumn / winter refresh with something new here and there. Pick and choose whatever you like.

There will be a few suggestions for making the capsule wardrobe more formal or more relaxed as we go along. Let’s start by looking at the tops:

Capsule Wardrobe AW 2025 Tops

For the first top we have a light neutral coloured Boxy Shirt designed by JW Anderson. Yes, that’s right, the creative director at Dior – bit of a bargain at £29.90. I especially like the one on the right, which is the natural colourway with a subtle burgundy stripe in it.

This shape goes well with lots of other clothing, including jeans, trousers and skirts.

PG’s Tips

• If you’d like a different colourway, try the off white version pictured on the left above, or there’s a plain white one instead.

Staying with JW Anderson, this Fair Isle Crew Neck Jumper in khaki, £34.90, adds some pattern and interest to the capsule wardrobe. It works well with both denim and heritage looks.

PG’s Tips:

• There are matching socks!
• If you aren’t keen on khaki, there’s a beige version of this jumper.
• For something less toasty, try the Soft Ribbed T-Shirt (Raglan Sleeve) in white/dark green, or the cropped sweatshirt in bottle green.

For a pop of colour, I’ve chosen the relaxed Soft Knit Longsleeve Fleece T-Shirt in burgundy/wine, £19.90, above right. I’d say it’s more of a light sweatshirt than a tee, casual and comfy.

PG’s Tips:

• Don’t like burgundy? This comes in many other colours, and pretty much any of them would work here.
• More formal: try the 100% Merino Ribbed Crew Neck Short Cardigan (worn buttoned up), or push the boat out with the 100% Cashmere Crew Neck Short Cardigan.
• You might also like the sleek Smooth Stretch Cotton T-Shirt (Long Sleeve) in purple.

Next up we have a classic cut Cotton Shirt in light green, £29.90, a different shape but versatile and easy to mix and match. Looks great worn open over a white tee on warmer days too.

PG’s Tips:

• Available in other colourways such as white and blue, which would both work here too.
• For a more modern shape, try the Cotton Stand Collar Shirt in beige stripe, or the Cotton Cocoon Shirt in grey or blue stripe.

This 3D knit cotton jumper in brown stripe, £34.90, works with smart or casual trousers, and this version brings in the current hot colour of the season.

PG’s Tips:

• Also available in off-white and navy colourways, both easy to mix and match, in case you don’t like brown. There’s also a monochrome stripe option which looks great, on sale for £12.90 online.
• The plain Double Faced Knit Crew Neck Jumper in brown marl would also work well here, if you want something a little smarter.

Capsule Wardrobe AW 2025: Bottoms / trousers

You’ll notice that the bottoms are all trousers this time, although I do usually like to include a skirt or two. That’s only because Uniqlo doesn’t have too many skirt options at the moment!

A well made pair of jeans work so well in most informal capsule wardrobes, and these JW Anderson Straight Jeans, £34.90 are amazing for the price. Plus, classic straight leg jeans should see you through many seasons to come.

Available in half sizes and different leg lengths, plus the option to have them shortened for free.

I prefer a darker denim for autumn and winter, so I’ve chosen the rinse wash dark indigo version (code 67 BLUE) shown above on the right. There’s a navy one if you’d like to go even darker.

PG’s Tips:

• More formal option: Smart Ankle Trousers in navy or black, £34.90.
• Prefer a different jeans cut? Try the Wide Straight Jeans, £34.90, including new colours here. They have different leg lengths, and in-between sizes for a better fit.

These Jersey Barrel Leg Trousers in black, £34.90, actually have more of a canvas feel to the fabric, although there’s a bit of stretch in the weave. Contemporary, cool and fun, and you can dress them up or down.

Finally, someone’s designed a pair of barrel leg trousers that don’t make you look bandy-legged. Will wonders never cease?

PG’s Tips:

• Prefer jeans? The Denim Curve Trousers (they’re jeans!) or the more edgy Baggy Curve Jeans might be the ones.
• Can’t cope with barrel leg anything? Try the black chinos or the smart wide leg trousers in black (see below).

The Smart Wide Leg Trousers in dark green, £34.90, bring a little more colour. They work with casual trainers, smarter loafers, or low heeled ankle boots.

PG’s Tips:

• If you don’t like green, the grey, black or beige versions will work here too.
• Want a different silhouette? Try the Smart Flared Trousers or the Smart Ankle Trousers.

These Uniqlo U Cotton Chinos, £39.90, are by chic French designers Lemaire, in case you want to tap into another Uniqlo designer collab. I’ve picked out the mid-brown pair for extra urban fashion points.

A good pair of chinos should last for years. Wear them preppy, punky or smart.

PG’s Tips:

• Don’t like brown? They also come in black.
• Non-chino options: the slightly tapered Warm Lined Trousers or Smart Ankle Trousers can be switched in here.

Finally we have the bestselling Brushed Jersey Wide Trousers, £34.90 in navy (see top right image). They look smart if you dress them up, but they’re also warm and comfortable.

PG’s Tips:

• Taller or shorter? There’s a tall version, or you can get the legs shortened on the standard length pairs for free.
• Don’t like navy? The dark grey, dark brown or olive versions might be more to your taste.
• For a different silhouette, try the Warm Stretch Trousers (more casual), or navy Smart Flared Trousers.

Capsule Wardrobe AW 2025: Jackets / cover ups / cardigans

And finally, a couple of quick ideas for an extra layer. I’ve gone fairly relaxed here, but have included some smarter items that can be substituted.

First up we have the Souffle Yarn Short Cardigan in dark brown, £34.90. The slightly shorter shape here pairs perfectly with this season’s wider trousers and full skirts, and the colour tones well with everything else I’ve picked out.

We also have the Jersey Relaxed Jacket in black, on sale £24.90, keeping it simple with something unfussy that goes with everything. If you’re quick, there’s also a denim blue version that’s perfect for this season’s double denim look without going full ‘Canadian tuxedo’.

• Don’t want a brown knit? Try the same cardigan in Navy, Dark Grey or Black.
• Smarter option: This brown Double Breasted Jacket might be more your style.
• Want a sleeker black jacket? Opt for the Milano Ribbed Knit Jacket for a structured cardigan look that’s very now, or try the smart Tweed Tailored Jacket for a simple blazer shape.
